Ice fishing season is officially underway in the Northwoods of Wisconsin! Here's the latest update on conditions, fish locations, and bait recommendations to help you have a safe and successful outing.
Current Ice Conditions
Most lakes now have 3–4 inches of ice with about 8 inches of light, fluffy snow cover. The fluffy snow provides limited insulation, so ice continues to form daily—though progress is slow.
Crappies and Panfish
Crappies and other panfish are primarily holding in shallow weeds or wood, mostly in the 4–6 foot range.
Recommended Baits
- Crappie minnows
- Wax worms
- Red spikes
- White spikes
- Fatheads
Small soft plastics are also worth trying. Check out these great options:
Walleyes
Walleyes are hanging slightly deeper, typically near weed edges or structural edges in the 8–12 foot range.
Recommended Live Baits
- River shiners
- Medium golden shiners
- Walleye suckers
- XL fatheads
Choose the best option based on the specific lake you're fishing.
Northern Pike
Many pike are being found in the weeds in the 5–10 foot range.
Recommended Live Baits
- Northern Pike Mix
- Large golden shiners
- Walleye suckers
Live Bait Availability
We have a great selection of fresh live bait in stock—perfect for targeting crappies, walleyes, and pike.
