Monster tubes have exploded across the musky range in the past years as an amazing tool for triggering muskies under various conditions. They come in 3 models-shallow, mid and deep, each has it's purpose.

  The shallow model is excellent for weed pockets, weed edges and around cover and structure. The Mid model is very much suited as the go to lure for working in the 8 foot range. These baits are often ripped and tapped with an upward rod sweep, which gets the bait to rise and hop, then some slack line to resume the fall. Speed can play a huge factor as fish laying off cover, even mid day lazy muskies can be tricked into striking. A side to side glide can even be managed with them, vary go speed and amount of pull to experiment with the erratic nature of these soft plastic tubes. Slack line bites are the norm...set the hook hard!

  The deep model obviously has the quickest sink rate, and is an excellent tool, and even can be vertically jigged for bottom hugging monsters.

  Since the Red Octobers are in the 6 ounce range, longer-powerful musky rods are a must. Soft rods will limit the possibilities of working the baits to their potential.
